Please be advised that the Annual General Meeting of the Australian Branch of the International Law Association will be held at 5:30 pm on Monday 15 December 2014 at Marque Lawyers, Level 4, 343 George Street, Sydney. The AGM will be followed by the annual Christmas drinks at 6:00 pm.

 

The President of the Australian Branch of the International Law Association, Dr Christopher Ward, will address the ILA and guests at its annual Christmas function on the work of the International Court of Justice in 2014.  Dr Ward will consider the decisions of the ICJ and cases currently before the Court in what has been one of its most significant years.  Cases include the Timor L’este v Australia litigation, the Nuclear Tests litigation brought by the Marshall Islands, Maritime Boundary litigation involving Somalia and Kenya and Nicaragua and Colombia, the Whaling litigation between Australia and Japan, and litigation between Bolivia and Chile.

 

Dr Ward is a barrister with Chambers at 6 St James’ Hall in Sydney.  He is an Adjunct Professor at the Australian National University and teaches and researches extensively in the field of public international law.  The International Law Association is a global organization which promotes and participates in the progressive development of international law through research and the preparation of draft treaties and agreements.
