Victorian Public International Law Moot

The Victorian Chapter’s Public International Law Moot provides an opportunity for young lawyers and graduates to engage in international law, put their advocacy skills to the test and connect with leaders in the field.

A single moot problem, set in the International Court of Justice, will be distributed to all participants. Oral and written submissions will be assessed by experts in the field during two preliminary rounds held in April and May 2014 at the state-of-the-art Melbourne Law School moot court.

A grand final will be held in the Federal Court between the two highest scoring teams on 26 June 2014. The final will feature a number of eminent panelists, including the Honourable Justice Mortimer of the Federal Court and the Honourable Catherine Branson. The grand final will be followed by a cocktail reception to recognize and award the winning team and exceptional performances by individuals.

PRELIMINARY TRAINING

Prior to the competition, participants will have the opportunity to refresh their international law research and advocacy skills by attending a training session held at Herbert Smith Freehills (our major sponsor).

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to individuals or teams of two to three (mock-counsel and instructing solicitor), with teams of 3 recommended.
