On 7 August 2014, the Queensland Chapter of the International Law Association will host a seminar by Dr Shane Monks, barrister-at-law, on the topic ‘Flight MH370: International Law and How We Use It’.

The mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, and the search for it, provide an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the complexity and reach of international law, and how it plays an essential but usually unnoticed role in our everyday lives.  The facts connect an array of international treaties and international organisations, in areas such as air transport and navigation, satellite communication, search and rescue, claims for compensation, and hostile acts against civilian aircraft.  Some of these are well known, but the discussion will also explore some less familiar nooks and crannies of international law.

Further information, including details on registration, is available on the event page.
