The ILA (Australian Branch) is pleased to present:

Advisory opinions on climate change coming to an international court near you: scope and implications

Chair: Justice Nicola Pain, Land and Environment Court of NSW and ILA (Australia) Management Committee

Our esteemed panel of international law scholars will address the ways in which authoritative opinions concerning climate change are being sought in various international fora.

 

Professor Natalie Klein, UNSW Sydney and ILA (Australia) President, will discuss the request for an advisory opinion from the International Tribunal of Law of the Sea,
Professor Lucas Lima, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, will discuss the request for an advisory opinion in the Inter-American human rights system,
Professor Margaret Young , University of Melbourne, will discuss the request for an advisory opinion by the UN General Assembly to the International Court of Justice, and reflect on the totality of advisory opinions and what it may mean for the development of international law.

 

The seminar is being held online and a zoom link will be circulated to registrants prior to the event.
