Three experienced speakers will explain their varied role and use of international law:
Dr Natalie Klein (Professor at UNSW Sydney Faculty of Law & Justice, and President of the Australian Branch of the International Law Association) will talk on the May 2024 advisory opinion on Climate Change and International Law issued by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea – what it means for public international law and the wider community
Hon Neil McKerracher KC (mediator and arbitrator, Francis Burt Chambers; former Justice of the Federal Court of Australia) will talk on his experience in developing an international UNCITRAL trade convention.
John Southalan (Independent Examiner, Australian National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct) will talk about the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, their use of international human rights and environmental law, and the complaints/conciliation function covering Australian companies operating anywhere outside Australia.
The discussion will be facilitated by Prof Erika Techera (UWA Law School, Oceans Institute and International Space Centre).
Venue open from 5pm for a 5.30 start and ending by 7pm. The event will be held in Court 1, level 7, Federal Court of Australia (1 Victoria Avenue). Further networking afterward at Public House Kitchen & Bar on Victoria Avenue across from the Federal Court building.
